The Senate is the last stop for a bill before it is sent to the governor. The Senate also approves the governor’s appointments to state offices. The senate president is next in line to the governor because Maine’s constitution does not include an office of lieutenant governor. Like members of the House of Representatives, senators vote by pushing green (yes) or red (no) buttons from their desks. Results are displayed on the panel behind the senate president’s desk.
Can you find the Maine state seal in the Senate Chamber?
CLUE: Look down! The seal features many state symbols. The white pine is the state tree. The moose lying at the foot of the tree is the state mammal.
